*About
*A Britican: A British American, or American Brit – a citizen of both countries with an invested interest in the politics and culture of each.
I started this blog in 2007 as a place to store/showcase some of my articles and creative pieces submitted as part of my journalism diploma in London (2007-08). Once I got my first full time writing gig, in California, it became more of a creative outlet (and not in conjunction with my job), and a lot more sporadic. In 2011, I gave NoT a little makeover and divided the content in to five categories to make my writing life easier:
Brit Watch – a look at what famous Brits are up to, or important British news from a Britican perspective
Fish(er) Out of Water – reflections on weird American things I don’t understand
Truth Nuggets – confessions or opinions
Chicken Nuggets – food and health stuff (aka. the horror of trying to stay pale and chubby and oh-so-British in image-obsessed LA!)
… and Golden Nuggets – the fun stuff
In 2012, I gave the blog a further makeover and renamed it Britican Times, as Nugget of Truth has become less relevant over time, especially as I’ve moved further away from political topics.

BIO STUFF:
My real name is Sarah. I’m a writer, in my mid-20′s. I was born in the U.K., and am both a British and American citizen. In June 2008 I moved to California to take on a writing/editing job in Los Angeles, CA. I received my bachelor’s degree from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and trained at the London School of Journalism.
I also studied creative writing with popular British novelist Sophie King – a.k.a. journalist Jane Bidder.
I’ve been published by my current employer in California as well as The Independent, Wandsworth Borough News in South London, and the RAF News (Royal Air Force). I also interned for the Sunday Telegraph. In Aberystwyth, I DJ’d for the student radio, Bay Radio, including a weekly film discussion show.
Generally my interests are politics, film, literature, music and studying the zeitgeist. I’m an absolute information junkie, devouring books, magazines, and newspapers but not to the point of missing out on experiencing real life. After all, real life is where one can meet real people and gain real wisdom and perspective.

And now for the disclaimer: I’m not responsible for the content of sites linked to this page! If I notice something interesting on another site or blog then I might make a link to it, but I’m not constantly checking the content of that site, and occassionally there might be something offensive on one of them. Too bad.
Most of the content on here is original to this site. However some of it comes from work I’ve submitted for my journalism diploma (2007-08) or articles I’ve had published elsewhere. I try to keep an open mind about the world around me, but there might be a hint of bias at times. After all, this is my own blog and it’s not affiliated with anything else.

Cheers for your add, tho I’m still getting my head around this word press thing! In answer to your question: um, yes, I guess I already am a professional writer (of sorts). I write and manage all content on http://www.animationforumwm.co.uk, and write news stories and copy for where i work, Media Content Lab (part of Birmingham City Uni).
What’s this writing project you have going then? Sounds interesting! Are you a journalist these days then? WHY DIDN’T YOU EVER WRITE FOR THE COURIER???? ;D
If you want to read something on my site a little less abrupt, have a look at this one:
